The Garbage Can
…no need to make it discreet
This often forgotten part of your space is usually considered essential and functional, but there is no reason your trash can can’t be chic and a perfect fit for your space.
Upgrade this forgotten piece with some cotton rope, a hot glue gun, and 30 minutes of your weekend.
Choose a white cotton rope (shown) for a polished nautical look or a raw and rough natural look for a more rustic feel in your space.
What you’ll need:
My blue metal trash can came from the dollar section at target and rung up at a whopping $5.
I liked the chevron cutouts at the top so I decided not to take my rope all the way up, but if you’re using a boring plastic can or a piece that has a color you don’t love, you can take the rope all the way up and cover the whole piece.
You can customize this DIY to fit your space with any choice of rope or style of can. A round can is an obvious choice but you can also opt for rectangle or square.
Both metal and plastic cans work perfectly and you can also play around with thinner or thicker rope depending on whether you want a more chunky, nautical style or a style with a little more fine detail. Just remember thinner rope means you’ll have to wrap it around the can more which will take you a little longer.
